My Short Chat With Vincent D'Onofrio of Law & Order:Criminal Intent

This is actually a piece that I wrote for another blog after I had the great opportunity to talk to Vincent D'Onofrio Tuesday on WRXP 101.9 radio FM NYC. So, if you read it on the other blogsite, feel free to skip it : )

October 27th- I had the great pleasure of being able to speak, although , only momentarily to Vincent D’Onofrio this morning when he was an in studio guest on NYC’s WRXP FM with Matt Pinfield. Right before the interview, they asked that anyone with questions for D’Onofrio call in, so I figured, “What the heck, let’s try it”. Imagine my surprise when they asked me to hold on to be put through! Once introduced and put on air, I was able to tell Vincent what a huge fan of the show myself and my family were and asked him if he was aware of the enormous Fluff campaign mounted against USA Network in response to the cast shake up at Criminal Intent. How wonderful it was to have the DJ say that they had been deluged with calls and e-mails about his impending departure from the show! D’Onofrio did say that, yes, he was aware of the Fluff campaign and that he felt that the fans had to do whatever they felt right in response to the news. However, sad to say, D’Onofrio did say that he wanted to make it abundantly clear that he was leaving the show by his own choice; no network foulplay. I was saddened to hear that and again, the DJjs responded by saying that their bulk of correspondence with fans was to question the truth behind the departures. Hearing from the man himself, that it was his decision to leave, I suppose made it easier. D’Onofrio said that he has seen the episodes with Golblum and assured listeners that he though they were great. Ok..that is all a matter of opinion but I digress. I will say that, on a positive note, D’Onofrio said that his character was NOT being killed off and that he and Dick Wolf had been speaking for months about leaving the door open for a return. I shall pin my hopes and dreams on that. It was a wonderful experience to be able to talk to the actor that created a character I have grown to enjoy so much over the years. At least some rumors have been laid to rest and the idea of a possible return for Goren is hopeful. I was extremely excited but think I managed to keep myself together and sound coherent and intelligent yet passionate about the show we have all come to know and love as Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

My "Law and Order :Criminal Intent" Distress

Ok now, in the past I have tried to link all blog postings in some shape or form back to my sea glass business so I keep a trending theme. Now that I am home full time working at said business ok..there we go…I have little to no social interaction with anyone aside from my 2 dogs, whose daily routine consists of chewing up random socks, shredding plush dolls and sleeping on the sofa.(Note photo of dogs intently listening to me) Wherein lies my problem as the dogs do not react to my musings, outrages, quips or mutterings aside from the occasional head tilt if I make a high pitched noise. So, when it was formerly announced that Vincent D’Onofrio would be leaving Law & Order:Criminal Intent at the beginning of next season, my outlets were limited after my husband and son went off to their respective jobs and school. Was I upset? Oh..beyond words. I had eagerly anticipated the very first episode of Criminal Intent when it was announced that the “Mothership” Law and Order would spawn another spin-off. I was not one of those “grow to love it” fans. I was there from Day One. D’Onofrio, our modern day Columbo turned Bobby Goren into an intricate savant like detective, who I will say, I enjoyed in his younger, more “quirky detective with at least some sort of outside social life” than his “man this guy is all messed up with a badge” latter days. I mean c’mon, we all wanted to see him with a date or a trip to the theater or even a Mulder-ish obsession with “blue movies”. Though I know, some fans wanted to see a downright Goren/Eames lovefest, I was not a proponent of that! There is a line to be drawn. Isn’t there? Though, I must admit, the little devil sitting on my shoulder so wanted some sort of Nicole Wallace interaction. Oh, that, “she’s such a bad girl but I want her”-thing was so apparent to me. Ah, but my fondness for Nicole Wallace had to be reigned in as we did have to see the woman as someone who murdered her own child so perhaps that was a line that shouldn’t be crossed either! But I digress and my main issue here was my absolute distress over the loss of the only show I am rabid about next to Dexter!!

I cannot say I did not see it coming because a few years back when D’Onofrio collapsed on the set, I started to worry. How could the show continue with this going on? If he was exhausted, how would he return to the series for any length of time? Then, my ultimate dream was realized; the return of Mike Logan! Ok..if I’m not getting a full season of Bobby Goren, would I accept half a season of Chris Noth back as Mike Logan and half a season of D’Onofrio?! What a pleasure and yes, I’ll gladly take that. I will admit Nichols was never my favorite partner for Logan and I loved Alicia Witt but I’ll take what was given and love it! What a compromise! Then things started going horribly wrong…

Goren started to deteriorate into an outburst of angst. His schizophrenic mother was dying, his brother was a junkie, he got suspended from the force, THEN he finds out Mr. Jaws( “I think you are gonna need a bigger boat”) Roy Scheider, serial killer extraordinaire is really his father?? What?? What did this poor guy do to deserve this?? Nicole Wallace even went all “nice” and tried to save someone! What is happening here? I supposed the outcome…they were setting up D’Onofrio’s sad that I surmised correctly. Though, after last season, part of me hoped that, with his mother gone, and his brother and what??? They killed Nicole Wallace?? Oh no the didn’t!! Who DOES that??
I still do not believe she is dead. I can’t believe it. She is like the horror movie villain whose body is never found and constantly returns to kill campers. She IS Michael Meyers. She IS Jason and Freddy. No mortal man (or John Glover) can so easily dispose of her caliber of murderess. She lies in wait; I am sure, coldly plotting her return from “the dead”, where we shall all find that she had a twin sister or another daughter when she was 10 or some sci-fi DNA clone. Remember that her body was never found. I cling to that hope with all I can. Because no matter what VDO may say on the radio or in-print. Whoever is supposed to be killed off (my fear is that they will knock off Erbe/Eames and this will push Goren/D'Onofrio over the edge) and totally destroy our remaining hopes. There is always the “Mike Logan” syndrome. This is the one where someone, albeit it VDO or USA or NBC or whatever power that be realizes their horrific mistakes and decides to set the world right. Bobby Goren is frustrated and lost without police work and returns to the force. Hey , if Mike Logan can return from Staten Island, anything can happen. Freddie always comes back, Michael and Jason always come back and no one ever questions how or why. We are just happy to see them return. I can only cling to the hope that Goren and Eames and our dear Nicole Wallace are on hiatus. Stranger things have happened..geesh, Family Guy is back and Ghost Whisperer..What kind of a world let’s THAT happen and allows Criminal Intent become a USA “bon-bon and hot tea” series? Let’s not even talk Arrested Development cuz that was Fox’s messup. Change the name, change the actors, but please, without Goren and Eames, it is NOT Criminal Intent.

Rumors are rampant of firings, and killing characters off(gasp). Don’t you just want to bump into someone without their PR person in the street. ;like Erbe or D’Onofrio in Whole Foods, where, over organic chicken, you could say,”Ok, really, what the heck is the deal?” and get a straight answer? Not since 9/11 or the moon landing have I felt such rumblings of a giant cover up. There are some that know the truth and to coin another Mulderism :“The Truth is Out There”.

Look for updates here: and

With Halloween just around the corner, and a weekend spent in some spooky places in Massachusetts, I felt some interests could best be served in a discussion on that topic. Now, although I had planned to attend the Sea Glass Festival in Erie. Pa this weekend, plans went asunder when my husband couldn’t take a day off of work and our trip began to encompass just an overnight stay somewhere. We opted for Gloucester, Mass, where my husband had never been and my son and I love. With just a 30 minute hop to Salem, world of witches and weirdness, I thought this was the perfect pairing for my sea glass adventures and my hubby, Ash’s (yes like that guy from “Evil Dead”) soon to be full time profession, host of a Paranormal Radio talk show, now available via podcast at This is where serendipity and “that Kevin Bacon” game started to fuse into some sort of strange anomaly!

Hey, I love my sea glass, love searching and finding it, addressing it’s characteristics and mysterious beginnings and in my blatherings, have found several people who, not only are fascinated by glass but also “other worldly” occurrences. My first run in with this was when I happened to browse at a fellow sea glass artists profile on an online selling venue and shockingly found her list of favorite books and movies were almost carbon copies of mine! We exchanged e-mails and have since become very chummy. Her delight in “Ghost Hunters” and horror movies that I thought only myself and a small spattering of mega Goth horror groupies supported was wonderful. Was it the artistic side of us that allowed the reach into the unknown or just a strange alignment of the stars and planets at the right time? I shrugged it off to happy chance but then more started occurring! Another seaglasser and I began to talk and she too, was fanatically interested in all things spooky and supernatural. And not just your, “Hey, did you see ‘The Blair Witch Project’ way?” and “Wasn’t ‘The Exorcist’ scary?” This woman was eagerly waiting for “Paranormal Activity” to be released and campaigning for its wide release by a major studio. Yet another “mover and shaker” in the sea glass world, who has made television appearances about his sea glass endeavors, has developed into a full fledged psychic with countless stories of spine-tingling ghostly encounters and has even worked with police on solving unsolved crimes, using his psychic skills! We fans of all things ghostly are usually lopped into a pool of people that live in their parents basement and stalk Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) at Horror Conventions. Kids usually, wearing black t-shirts with a hatchet wielding harpy emblazoned on the front and spiked armbands, black lipstick and some odd plaid skirt/skort short that looks like a mix of “St.Trinian’s” gone uber Goth and detention hall at Catholic School. Though I’m sure these people are very nice…I am not one of them…I am a Mom, I am a wife, I live in the suburbs with a lovely son, two dogs and a cat and though I spend loads of time in the basement, I do not live there, nor do I have an affinity for plaid mini skirts though the whole “Naughty Schoolgirl” look does entice my husband but that is an entirely separate R-rated blog. But what’s with all these sea glass people??

We glassers who-ghost is becoming a phenomena unto itself. Now, I have found some strange coincidences and binds between myself and some other hard core seaglassers that involved the paranormal and psychic events but none so blatant as my adventure this weekend. When I first booked our stay at our favorite Inn at Gloucester, The Blue Shutters, one of the owners, Ed had called me a tad after our original phone call to tell me that he remembered me speaking of my husband’s radio show and thought he knew someone who my hubby might be interested in meeting. This gentleman, he went on to say, was an actual Ghost Hunter that investigated phenomena in the Cape Ann area. He would call him and set up a meeting. Well, to “Reader’s Digest” this seems that this gentleman, along with his wife and a few others are actual full fledged Haunting Investigators and TAPS affiliates! How great for my hubby to meet!! Then things started to get even weirder, when Ed, the Innkeeper was speaking to his Ghost Hunter buddy, he mentioned that I was the one that had been coming to the Inn on vacation and sea glass hunting expeditions. “Odd”, the Ghost Hunter said to Ed, “my wife is a sea glasser who designs jewelry too”. At the very time this conversation was going on, I was wondering to myself why all this conversation seemed like déjà vu …then I remembered a correspondence I had had in the beginnings of my Etsy career will a fellow sea glasser who lived in Massachusetts. I went through my e-mails and found just the one I was looking for!! When the call came back from Ed, I was right!! I knew this person!! We had chatted months earlier and now here we were, hooking up through our husbands with the paranormal angle!! Well, we were able to hook up that night and as the gentleman spoke on about their paranormal experiences, my fellow jeweler and I exchanged some great hunting spots, drilling techniques, best hunting times and all things sea glass. We had a great night and I hope that on our next trip to Mass., we can meet again and have a more formal get together!! But that was not the end of the night.

As our guests left and we headed for bed, other guests and Inn owners that had been in the lobby while we chatted with our friends, struck up a conversation with us that started with my affinity for glass hunting in the area and turned immediately to Ash’s involvement with the paranormal and experiences they had had. What is this strange connection between sea glass and psychic phenomena? Is it the lure and mystery of sea glass that entrances us and leaves us open to beliefs in other realms or just odd coincidences? I cannot think the latter because way too many glassers have commented on these types of occurrences or interests for me to think it just coincidence. I think the mysterious qualities of glass and its origins bind us together with a world of uncanny occurrences; like finding that red or orange glass and the lure of the unexpected…whatever it is, it intrigues me….Happy Halloween!!!!!

Names and identities of glassers withheld so as not to be considered the lunatic fringe. I however, have no fear of this …obviously!!
